Alliance Engineering Consultants (AEC) was engaged by Tronox Ltd to conduct a review of the ‘Pelican’ dredging system. There have been several issues indicated by Tronox with regards to the dredging operation at the site, in particular, the suitability of the rope slewing system that is used to direct the Pelican’s cutter head from side to side. The client had concerns regarding the frequency of slewing wire damage and breakage which was considered to be too high.
